Johannes Hahn new Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negsotiations

BRISSELES – New president of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker nominated Johannes Hahn as new Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.

Johannes Hahn is an Austrian politician from the Austrian People’s Party (Österreichische Volkspartei, ÖVP). He was the European Commissioner for Regional Policy in the second Barroso Commission. He succeeded Benita Ferrero-Waldner as Austria’s representative.

He was born in 1957, and studied at the University of Vienna, where he obtained a Doctorate of philosophy in 1987. Johannes Hahn was Austrian Federal Minister of Science and Research from 2007 initially as part of the Austrian Federal Government under Gusenbauer until 2008, then from  2008 as part of the Faymann government, in which he also was Minister of Justice for an interim period.
