meta_maliBRUSSELS – Brussels is closely following the situation in the country and we repeat the need for all pardons to be withdrawn, said spokeswoman for the European Commission, Maja Kocijančić when our journalists from “Meta” asked her to comment on the Presidents decision to partially withdraw some of the pardons.

“We have repeatedly made our (EU) position on what needs to be done very clear: all the presidential pardons need to be rescinded without delay, to preserve the principle of accountability, ensure equal treatment before the law, counteract serious concerns about impunity and avoid selective justice”, said Kocijančić.

Today, President Gjorgi Ivanov annulled 22 pardons out of the 56 he granted politicians and their associates in April. The others, who were not included in today’s decision will have the opportunity to submit personal requests to have their pardons withdrawn, said Ivanov today.
