Brussels: Expansion to continue

cdm logoBRUSSELS –  European Union will continue to implement its politics and clearly stated strategic goals, and expansion to Western Balkan is one of them, it was said during the meeting that Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, state secretary for EU integration, had with representatives of European Commission.Pejović had separate meetings with Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission Christian Danielsson and newly appointed Director for Western Balkans department for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Genoveva Ruiz Calavera.

Pejović’s interlocutors relayed strong dedication to preserve EU’s unity.

“They emphasized the fact that EU will remain open to new members, and that expansion policies will remain the same. Key factor in joining will be the swiftness and quality of reforms done by aspiring members”, they said in MVPEI.

Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission Christian Danielsson said that EU will remain faithful to its principles, and that it welcomes Western Balkan countries.

Montenegro is expected to continue fulfilling its obligations in terms of reforms and rule of law.

Ruiz Calavera welcomes active approach that Montenegro has, and supports the results it has achieved. EU will continue to support Montenegro on its road to membership.

Pejović introduced his interlocutors to the current state of affairs, and underlined Montenegro’s determination to continue with quality reforms.

Keeping in mind positive estimates Montenegro has achieved for its political, economic and legal reforms, the main hope for Montenegro is to open the remaining two legal chapters as soon as possible.
