ata_maliTIRANA – A discussion session on judicial reform in Albania is taking place at the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament (EP) on Tuesday. At the session opening, MEP Elmar Brok called for an indispensable adoption of reform in the judiciary on July 21.

There were doubts as regards judicial reform, as it is not always easy to understand “the background” of some stands taken in Albania on this reform. But, we cannot accept this reform to fail, the right-wing MEP said.

So in the following hours, Albania should really complete the judicial reform. It is high time for those who can take this decision, and that cannot be delayed anymore “, Brok further said.

On his part, EU Enlargement commissioner, Johannes Hahn, warned that in case of its non-approval Thursday by Parliament, Albania’s European prospects will be undermined and would be negative. Hahn also emphasized that if the Albanian parliament will fail to take a positive decision, a referendum will be held on judicial reform, because 90 percent of Albanians support it.
