Serbia does not back Republika Srpska referendum

BELGRADE - Serbia on Thursday did not back the Republika Srpska referendum.

In a joint statement by the Serbian president and PM, handed out to reporters after their meeting with Serbs from RS, Tomislav Nikolic and Aleksandar Vucic noted Serbia’s policy was one of respect of the territorial integrity of BiH – as well as the integrity of its entity of RS – and that therefore they did not want to influence them to change the decision to hold the September 25 referendum.

Nikolic and Vucic condemned organised attacks from certain countries in the region against RS and the Serbs, as well as a hypocritical silence and false symmetries and balances made by a significant part of the international community.

Irrespective of certain differences in views on the situation in the region, Serbia will always support the Serbs and the citizens and institutions of RS, they said.
