Zvizdić meets with NATO Secretary General J. Stoltenberg: Full membership is strategic foreign policy goal of BiH

SARAJEVO – Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdić met yesterday in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, announced the Council of Ministers.

During the meeting, Chairman Zvizdić said that the strategic foreign policy goal of BiH is full membership in NATO. He stressed that BiH is determined to promote peace, stability, security and prosperity in the region and globally, and is committed to deepening cooperation in the field of defense and security, and cooperation with the aim of integrating the region into the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He informed the Secretary General about fulfilling of conditions for activation of the Action Plan for Membership in NATO. He stressed that BiH strives to meet the conditions from Tallinn thus NATO could as soon as possible reach a decision on the activation of the MAP.

Chairman Zvizdić informed Secretary General about the progress that has been made lately in BiH.

Secretary General Stoltenberg praised the progress of BiH in the implementation of tasks for activation of the MAP and stressed the need to fully meet the conditions agreed in Tallinn. He said that NATO and BiH have a common interest, and that is to strengthen cooperation with the aim of safety and security. He thanked BiH on the participation in the NATO led mission in Afghanistan, in which participates 55 members of the Armed Forces of BiH.

Chairman Zvizdić said that BiH should become a member of NATO, not only because of the guarantee of the internal security, but also because of the fact that BiH by adapting standards and values advocated by NATO will become a modern country in which democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights are permanent category.

Chairman Zvizdić said that BiH with the participation in NATO activities is actively preparing to be credible, prepared and serious ally in the future, who will be an added value to this alliance and that he expects that at the next NATO summit will be activated MAP.

The meeting was also attended by Almir Džuvo, Head of BiH Mission to NATO in Brussels.
