BRUSSELS – Kosovo plans to apply for EU candidate status this year, Kosovo FM Enver Hoxhaj said in Brussels Wednesday, Tanjug reports.
We want to see Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro in the EU, but we think we should be rewarded in the same way as our counterparts in Belgrade for the job we are doing at home and as part of the dialogue, which is currently not the case, Hoxhaj said in Brussels.
Hoxhaj was responding to a Tanjug question about the purpose of the candidacy of Kosovo, which does not meet the fundamental conditions for candidate status.
When asked by Tanjug about the intent behind Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi’s support for the idea of a union of Kosovo and Albania, Hoxhaj said he had no more time to speak to reporters and left the EP building.
Hoxhaj told MEPs earlier the dialogue with Belgrade made no sense without a mutual recognition.
