Bulgaria takes over the EU presidency

BRUSSELS – Starting from today, Bulgaria will preside over the Council of the European Union.

“This country will seek a balance between the countries-members’ specific priorities and EU’s strategic priorities for accomplishing real, tangible results in an active dialogue with the citizens regarding the European issues and will provide answers to their demands about greater security, employment, sustainable growth and a stronger presence of the EU on the international scene. When we are talking about United Europe, we must not forget that the Western Balkans has a need for clear European perspective and connectedness between the and the country members” reads the official statement on the website of the Bulgarian presidency of the EU.

Bulgaria will preside with the Union until 30th of June when it will hand over the presidency to Austria.

Bulgaria has received criticism from the EU for the imbalances in the economic and social issues including a high level of corruption.
