TIRANA – “The opening of accession negotiations would be an encouraging signal for the people, especially the young people in Albania and Macedonia,” Germany’s Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office, Michael Roth stated during an interview for the German Sunday newspaper, “Welt am Sonntag”.

“However, the path towards EU accession “is still long and in every single step there is a clear condition. So, the issue of the starting accession negotiations is “not a matter for immediate accession, but the first step of a long path,” he added.

“Albania has begun a constitutional justice reform process that will lead the country forward,” Roth said.

“Also, Albania has already achieved success in the fight against corruption and organized crime. The EU accession process is the best way to “see that the Albanian government continues to make every effort to meet the conditions,” Roth added.
