BELGRADE – In a case of any kind of agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, a referendum on the issue will be held in Serbia probably in 2019, reported “Danas” on Tuesday, citing sources from diplomatic circles.

The interlocutors of the newspapers point out that such a scenario was also announced by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić on Sunday. After the Brussels talk with Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi, Vučić stated that “he will not sign anything, and the final decision will be made by the people”.

“The referendum will be organized as late as possible, probably at the beginning of 2019. The West, however, will not approve it and will find the referendum unnecessary”, said sources.

According to “Danas“, if Belgrade and Pristina sign an agreement in the next few months, the deadline for implementation will be spring of 2019. The West continues to insist that Kosovo should become a member of the UN and other international organizations, while Serbia should get the Association of Serbian Municipalities and possibly “the exact year of joining the EU”.
