Marković meets with Hahn, discusses Montenegro’s EU integration progress

BELGRADE – “Montenegro will work even harder and more intensive next year on fulfilling EU agenda”, said Prime Minister of the country Duško Markocić during his yesterday’s meeting with European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

Prime Minister Marković emphasised that the ambition of Montenegro is to soon open the remaining Chapter 8 – Competition – and that it has secured the internal readiness for closing of several other chapters.

Prime Minister Marković and Commissioner Hahn stressed that a progress has been achieved in the area of rule of law. Marković especially reflected on the fight against corruption and organised crime, where, he said, Montenegro is expecting new successes in the areas such as human trafficking and money laundering.

The emphasis was also put on the progress in the area of media freedoms, protection of journalists and property. It was stressed that new media laws, expected to improve the media scene, are being adopted.

Prime Minister also briefed Commissioner Hahn on political situation in Montenegro. They also exchanged opinions on developments in the region.
