TIRANA – Prime Minister Edi Rama reasserted on Monday the readiness to engage in an unconditional dialogue with the opposition within the constitutional framework in an attempt to break the political deadlock in the country, ATA reports.
We are ready for a dialogue with the opposition, without turning it into a courgettes game and without setting any conditions. We are ready to have a face to face meeting and find solutions to what the opposition claims, within the constitutional framework of the Republic of Albania and also in the interest of this people’s aspiration, which is not simply holding free and fair elections but also charting its own course,” Rama told a news briefing after the meeting of the SP parliamentary group.
Rama highlighted the vital importance of vetting process as a condition for the opening of EU negotiations and the progress of Albania.
The EU expects us to sit at the table and negotiate the membership, on the other hand Albania and Albanians expect to see the justice system escape from the clutches of corrupt judges and prosecutors. Therefore, the vetting is every bit crucial for the country as dialogue with the opposition is for Albania.
Asked whether PM is willing to make any concession to tackle the situation right now, Rama replied that government is a responsibility which is not to be abdicated for as long as it is mandated by the people.
I see the government as a responsibility rather than as a privilege one can do away with. Therefore, there is no way I am going to abdicate this responsibility for as long as I am mandated by the people to exert it in the service of the people.
He also voiced his readiness to solve any concern of opposition on elections, addressing the issues pertaining to the electoral code in conjunction with the OSCE/ODHIR.
