BRUSSELS – Serbia will open new negotiation chapters in its EU accession talks on December 11 or 12 at Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels.

According to Tanjug’s diplomatic sources in Brussels, consent of all 28 EU member states – which are to decide whether to open two or three new chapters with Serbia – is still pending.

Although all three chapters that are being discussed by the EU working bodies (Chapters 6 – Company law, 30 – External relations and 33 – Financial and bugetary provisions) have already received the green light from over 20 member states, it remains unknown whether they will be approved by all members of the Union.

The sources have told Tanjug the member states were now considering an EC report on implementation of Serbia’s action plan for Chapters 23 and 24.

According to informal sources in the European Council, there are at least two member states that are not satisfied with Serbia’s progress on rule of law.
