BRUSSELS – The conclusions on the Western Balkans to be adopted by the leaders of the 28 EU member states at the March 22-23 summit in Brussels will be brief and mainly focus on preparations for an EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia, Tanjug learns.
“The conclusions are expected to touch upon the upcoming EU-Western Balkans summit that will be held in Sofia on May 17 and is expected to reaffirm the region’s European perspective,” a source in the European Council said.
The EU leaders will express an expectation for the Sofia summit to launch specific initiatives to boost “physical connectivity and interpersonal contacts within the region and between the region and the EU,” the source said.
Issues related to migration and security are also expected to be discussed.
“The conclusions will confirm that enlargement will be discussed by the European Council in June,” it said.
