SKOPJE – Political parties and the relevant authorities must urgently address the situation in the interest of the citizens so their country can return to the Euro-Atlantic path. The Przhino Agreement is of great importance. Political leaders must preserve and respect their political agreements and key principles, such as the rule of law, accountability, inclusiveness and credible elections, said the Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission, Christian Danielsson after meeting with political leaders.
The European Commissioner reiterated that it is imperative the presidential pardons are withdrawn. He noted that candidate countries for EU accession must offer equal treatment for everyone before the law, and accountability for those who have broken it.
According to him, the adopted law violates these principles and he expressed concern that no concrete steps have been taken. Danielsson said that there can not be no selective justice and illegal activities. Regarding the work of the Special Public Prosecution, he said they must be allowed to do their job.
“It is of great importance to ensure accountability and to restore confidence in the rule of law so citizens can trust the judicial system”, Danielsson stated, voicing concern about the undermining and obstruction of the SPO. He added that it is a red flag for the International Community.
