PODGORICA – The Expert Mission of the European Union on the subject of external borders will stay in Montenegro from June 28th to July 1st , 2016. The mission consists of an independent expert from Finland, as well as representatives of the European Commission responsible for security matters and internal affairs.
Members of the expert mission, during their stay in Montenegro, will held a series of meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and sectors of the Border Police.
The meetings will be an opportunity for Montenegrin side to present a draft of the Schengen Action Plan to their European colleagues. This draft was adopted by the Government of Montenegro on 21st of April 2016, and then forwarded to the European Commission for an opinion.
During the mission, the Montenegrin side will also present the current situation in the field of external borders, with special emphasis on administrative capacity in the context of the recent reorganization of the police. This mission will be an opportunity to present the dynamics of implementation of the Strategy for Integrated Border Management, to present the results of the fight against corruption and organized crime in the border area, as well as cooperation with the European Union in this field.
In the context of bilateral cooperation with neighbouring countries, the Montenegrin side will present the pace of demolitions of alternative routes for illegal border crossing to members of the expert mission.
