BRUSSELS – European Parliament’s Vice-President and standing rapporteur for relations with Kosovo MEP Ulrike Lunacek (Greens/EFA, AT) welcomes yesterday 5 point proposal from Kosovo MPs Vjosa Osmani and Ilir Deda and supports this draft for political agreement as a starting point for real political dialogue between party leaders to find a political solution that restores the functionality of the Kosovo Assembly.
Lunacek: „I highly appreciate the efforts by MPs Osmani and Deda, the two of them from different political groups in the Assembly – one in government, the other one in opposition – who in a truly European combined effort, have achieved to write a valid and very rational proposal which I urge all Kosovo parties, whether opposition or government, to agree upon.
„To agree on this proposal would be an adequate way in order to return to a peaceful way of negotiations and parliamentary debate and not to further damage the image of Kosovo abroad with further escalation of violence.
„The latter would make it extremely difficult for friends of the Republic of Kosovo like me to argue for further integration of the youngest European state into the EU, especially when it comes to convincing Ministers of the Interior next year – after the Commission hopefully will give its green light to the Council in December – to give their green light for visa liberalisation.“
