Ilazi: Through the SAA, Kosovo is part of the EU membership process as all regional countries

PRISTINA – The Ministry of European Integration held today an informational conference, “Kosovo – EU Stabilization and Association Agreement and its implementation”, in order to inform central and municipal institutions officials about the benefits and obligations arising from this agreement. 

On this occasion, Deputy Minister of European Integration, Mr. Ramadan Ilazi spoke on the SAA as an instrument of contractual relations with the EU, and its importance for Kosovo’s European future.

“With the entry into force of the SAA, Kosovo commenced the journey towards EU membership and now the Republic of Kosovo is part of the formal EU accession process, same as all countries of the region”, said Deputy Minister Ilazi.

Among other things, he explained the importance of this agreement in the political and economic aspect as well as alignment of legislation and cooperation.

“The progress of the Republic of Kosovo in its European path will be achieved with the proper implementation of the SAA and that should be our focus. Kosovo’s municipalities have a key role in the process of implementing European reforms and in this regard we are looking forward to a good and continuous cooperation during this process”, stated Deputy Minister Ilazi.

Moreover, Mr. Artan Çollaku, director of the Department for Coordination of the Stabilisation and Association Process in the Ministry of European Integration spoke about the obligations and political benefits emerging from the SAA.

Mr. Jeton Karaqica, director of the Department of Economic Criteria and Internal Market within the Ministry of European Integration, presented the obligations and economic benefits of this agreement.

Whereas, Ylli Valla, head of the Division for European Integration in the Ministry of Local Government Administration, stated the fact that the obligations of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement also apply to the local government.
