BRUSSELS – Balkan Trafik festival held in Belgium celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Music festival dedicated to the promotion of culture and art of the Balkans will take place from 14th till 17th April, in the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels (Bozar.be). Balkan Trafik! will host Emir Kusturica, Jordi Savall, Frank London, Jahwar & Mitsoura and plenty more.
The idea behind this event was born in 2003, when a Belgian director Nicolas Wieërs went on a journey to Kosovo. Although the initial plan was to make a documentary, great impression that Kosovo left on the filmmaker, led him to create something completely different. In order to capture the atmosphere and cultural heritage of the Balkans, Wieërs decided to initiate this festival. Balkan Trafik! is a specific festival combining films, workshops, talks, concerts by celebrities alongside rising talents, culinary delights and much more. Thus, the festival is a perfect venue for intercultural exchange and interaction.
Accordingly, the anniversary edition programme announces a mixture of happenings and great names from various countries such as the director Emir Kusturica, a special concert Bal Kan Honey & Blood by composer/musician Jordi Savall on the theme of the Balkans, Frank London’s The Glass House Project and a new 100% Balkan Trafik! project. This intercultural creation brings the Belgian-Tunisian musician Jahwar together with the Roma singer Mitsoura, known from Tony Gatliff’s cult film ‘Vengo’.
