OSCE reminds Serbia to intensify the efforts to investigate the murders of journalists

VIENNA – On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the murder of Milan Pantić (journalist for Vecernje Novosti, assassinated on 11 June 2001), OSCE Representative on Freedom of Media Dunja Mijatović called on Serbia to increase the efforts to solve this and other journalist murders that occurred in the country. Among other attacks perpetrated to journalists, she mentioned the killing of Dada Vujasinović (1994) and Slavko Ćuruvija (1999), which have not been investigated either.

OSCE Representative Mijatović reminded that public authorities have the duty to ensure and further strengthen their efforts to solve and prevent crimes against media, guaranteeing that – on her side – she will continue to monitor the investigations. Related to this, she reiterated her support for the initiative promoted in 2014 to establish a commission in order to speed up the investigations of these crimes.
