BELGRADE – The accession process and EU membership is a strategic commitment and the main foreign policy priority for all countries in the region, and constant support and encouragement from the European Commission, the European Parliament but, most of all, EU member states, is very significant in terms of European prospects, Marinika Tepic, who chairs the Serbian parliamentary committee on European integration, said Monday.Tepic and Committee member Vesna Markovic were attending a two-day meeting of the Conference of Chairmen of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union Member States (COSAC) in Bratislava as part of the Slovak EU presidency, the Serbian parliament said in a statement.
In her address, Tepic highlighted Serbia’s strong commitment to EU membership, reform processes and aligning its legislation with the EU legal system, as well as the contribution Serbia is making to accessible EU initiatives, policies and missions at this stage.
“Integration of this part of Europe is contributing to peace and security as well as to prosperity, while the principle of solidarity is crucial for the development of the enlargement policy,” Tepic said, expressing satisfaction that all member states were willing to proceed with the opening of the prepared negotiation chapters.
