ata_maliTIRANA – The EU ambassador in Tirana, Romana Vlahutin, appealed today to  Albanian political class to reflect on the EC Progress Report on Albania.

Outlining the recommendations and main findings of this document before the National Integration Council, the ambassador Vlahutin attached high importance to the aspects that need to be improved.

Describing the approval of justice reform as “a miracle,” she stressed the importance of its implementation. “We would like to see the reform take place ahead of EC report and not only after its publication”, said Vlahutin.

Recommendation of EC, according to Vlahutin, is the fruit of an incredible work done by Albanians and some administrations. In addition, the ambassador emphasized that implementation of justice reform will be high on the agenda of all governments until the EU membership.

Chairwoman of National Integration Council, Majlinda Bregu, invited the government to consult the relevant parliament structure on the process of opening the negotiations. “If the govt. has a document which will serve as a guide to the opening of negotiations, I am asking the latter to consult the Integration Council first”, stated the former minister of Integration.

For her part, the head of Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Arta Dade, pointed out that constitutional amendments are a major step forward in the process of European integration.

Afterwards, the meeting of Integration Council which was joined by the whips, MPs, and others, proceeded behind closed doors.
