Kocijančič for "Meta": We welcome the efforts of Ivanov to engage with all political parties

Maja Kocijančič

meta_maliBRUSSELS – The European Commission today welcomed the ongoing efforts of Macedonian President Ivanov for dialogue with the leaders of the political parties, which is crucial for the decision making, to whom the mandate to form a government will be given, Meta news agency reports.

“We welcome the ongoing efforts of President Ivanov to engage with all political parties”, said spokesperson Maja Kocijančič for the EU Commission in a statement for Meta.

She also reminded that all the main parties have stated to be in favor of the EU reform agenda and agree that the EU path is a strategic objective for the country.

“If they work together towards this shared objective, they will have a de facto constitutional majority that is important along the path of European integration”, Meta quoted Kocijančič.

Regarding yesterday`s demand by VMRO-DPMNE for Brussels to explain on basis of which part from the Macedonian Constitution EU is expecting president Ivanov to choose a leader who will create “as broader as possible government”, Kocijančič said that the broad political consensus and a broad-based coalition is needed, so that the country can face the many challenges ahead.

“We were referring to the need to have a broad political consensus and a broad-based coalition, so that the country can deal effectively with the many challenges ahead. Implementing the urgent reform priorities, the Pržino Agreement and resolving the bilateral issues at hand will require a strong commitment across all political parties”, said Kocijančič.
