PRISTINA – Video message by Nataliya Apostolova, Head of the EU Office in Kosovo/EU Special Representative, on Europe Day 2017.

Good morning Kosovo citizens,

Mirëdita,

Dobar dan to all,

on Europe Day in Kosovo!

On 9 May we celebrate peace and unity in Europe. On this day, we reconfirm our common values of solidarity, democracy, rule of law, and freedom.

The people in Kosovo share these European values, and want to see them translated into stability, economic growth and prosperity in their own country. But it requires courage and vision to move forward, beyond daily politics, to unite around the European idea, using the best and the brightest from all of its communities to build together a future of hope and a future of success. The EU is here to support Kosovo people in seizing this opportunity.

Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe and this is its greatest treasure and advantage.

That is why of a key importance is good education, creation of opportunities for the youth and a stronger economy. A system that prioritizes these issues will generate new jobs, lead to improved living conditions, and give a long-term perspective to the youth. The EU has offered a tool to make this happen – the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.

Youth concerns all over the world are of a particular importance to us, including access to quality education and employment. 30 years ago we started one of the EU’s most successful programmes – ERASMUS, enabling young people to study abroad and exchange experiences with students from other countries.

The European Union is eager to see Kosovo succeed. You, the citizens, particularly the youth, need to stir Kosovo to this success. We all count on you.

Let’s celebrate our common values on this Europe Day together in Kosovo. Join our educational, cultural and sports activities in Pristina, North Mitrovica and across Kosovo.

Happy Europe Day!
