TIRANA – The main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha told his party’s supporters on Friday that a planned protest on Saturday will institutionalize what he called “The New Republic, as an entire nation will gather to demand free and fair elections.”

DP and smaller opposition parties are to hold a large show-of-force protest rally on May 13, expected to be “the largest ever,” according the DP’s leader Lulzim Basha.

Addressing his supporters at a tent on the 83rd day of the opposition protest, Basha said “the 12-week long resistance will end tomorrow, which will mark the inauguration of the New Republic, the largest ever unification of Albanians in their history.”

After boycotting parliament since February demanding that the Prime Minister Edi Rama resigns and allows the creation of a technical government to take the country to elections, the centre-right opposition of democrats have refused to join negotiations on finding a compromise deal and participate in the June 18 general election.

DP-opposition coalition is making preparations to hold what they call the biggest peaceful rally the opposition has held yet.
