BRUSSELS – EU spokesperson Maja Kocijančič on Tuesday dismissed allegations the standards applicable to Catalonia and Spain are different from those that were applicable to Serbia in the case of Kosovo.

Commenting on the European Commission’s position that Kosovo and Catalonia are incomparable cases, Kocijančič said there were no double standards.

Kosovo is a sui generis case, she told Tanjug.

As confirmed by the European Council, Kosovo is a sui generis case and, as such, it cannot be compared to any other situation – there are no double standards and international law must be universally applicable, and the EU is fully respectful of it, she said.
