Vučić courts voters as students take the campaign door to door

Serbia’s election campaign is increasingly a contest between Vučić’s ruling party and the Student List, whose activists report visiting 170,000 households in 20 days. With other parties struggling for visibility, violent incidents deepen concerns ahead of the unpredictable 25 October vote.

Dear readers,

Welcome to the Weekly Campaign Overview, the news digest that our team at Serbia Elects has relaunched for the upcoming parliamentary election. In the coming weeks, we will be sending you regular updates on the election campaign, as well as alerts on major potential developments.

The parliamentary election scheduled for 25 October comes as the culmination of almost two years of political tensions and polarization in Serbian society following the 2024 Novi Sad railway station collapse. The Student Movement, which emerged from the protests that followed, has transformed into an (unconventional) political actor. It has marginalized the established opposition parties and emerged as the primary – and strongest thus far – challenger to Aleksandar Vučić.
