TRIESTE – Preparations for the Trieste Summit are gaining momentum in Trieste today with a TAIEX Regional workshop on obstacles to good governance in the Western Balkans. The meeting, which has been organised in cooperation with the Italian Anti-Corruption National Agency (ANAC), brings together anti-corruption authorities in the Western Balkans and some of their peers in EU Member States, DG NEAR stated.

The fight against corruption and the strengthening of the rule of law are key issues in for the region and in the framework of the EU accession process. Through this workshop, TAIEX will foster dialogue at a technical and administrative level on how to counteract possible obstacles to good economic governance and how to effectively prevent and address corruption in the private sector. This will be done by showcasing the experience of EU Member States in similar situations. Moreover, it will provide guidance on how to meet the EU recommendations in the framework of the EU accession process.

Part of the so-called “Berlin process”, the Trieste Summit on 12 July will gather the Heads of States and Government of  Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, France, Germany,  Italy and six Western Balkan high-level government representatives. The aim will be to reaffirm the region’s EU perspective and improve cooperation and economic stability.
