BRUSSELS – Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, announced yesterday the appointment of 17 new Heads of EU Delegations in the framework of the regular rotation for this year.
Among the 17 nominated is Aivo Orav, who will serve as the head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
He is currently serving as Head of the EU Delegation to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
Orav has previously served as ambassador of Estonia in Turkey, covering at the same time Lebanon and Azerbaijan, and was also the Estonian ambassador in Poland, covering also Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia.
Mr. Orav also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, including the position of political director. In addition to his native Estonian, Orav speaks English, Russian, German, Bulgarian and French.
Aivo Orav will be the new successor of the current EU ambassador to Montenegro, Mitja Drobnič, whose four-year mandate expires on August 31. Mr. Orav will take office on September 1, 2016.
