EU Ambassador Romana Vlahutin met with the newly appointed Justice Minister of Albania

ata_maliTIRANA – Head of the EU Delegation to Albania, Ambassador Romana Vlahutin met with the newly appointed  Minister of Justice, Mr Petrit Vasili, in the first official meeting since he took office last week, ATA news agency reported. During the meeting both sides stressed the importance of the justice reform, that has reached the critical phase of implementation while also pointing to related follow-up with the legislative work.

EU technical support to all Albanian stakeholders in the judicial field continues through EURALIUS IV mission and also with all related EU projects and Twinnings. Coordination among all actors remains important to ensure that the best EU practices are reflected in the legislative acts while important stakeholders such as Civil Society and professionals with their national and international expertise are actively involved, reads the press statement published on Delegation of the European Union to Albania website.

Vlahutin appreciated Vasili’s constructive role during the long and challenging path towards finalization of the justice system reform, and has affirmed that EU support to the whole justice sector remains a priority for the integration roadmap of Albania, noting that implementation of the reform requires constructive cooperation of all directly and indirectly involved parties, ATA reported.

On his part, Justice Minister said that Ministry of Justice has adopted a completely new approach towards the existing justice system, while emphasizing on the need for a swift implementation of the justice reform, highlighting the importance of the smooth establishment of the new judicial bodies, which are inextricably linked to the finalization of the vetting process.
