TIRANA – Macedonia is a country in the Balkans where many foreign interests clash, stated last night Albanian Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta in an interview for “Ora News” television, Macedonian news agency Meta reports.
“It is a country which, in addition to Albania, has specific problems with some of the neighbouring countries, demographic or ethnic composition makes the country very fragile in terms of functioning as a stable state”, said Meta, answering a questions on the region, developments in Macedonia, as well as the accusations made by VMRO-DPMNE concerning Tirana’s interference in the internal affairs of the country.
Meta believes the real battle in Macedonia in recent years is not a crisis between Albanians and Macedonians, but a crisis between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM, a crisis between the government and the opposition.
Regarding the results of the early parliamentary elections, Meta says they are being used to create a false situation which is being presented as a problem between Macedonians and Albanians.
He concluded that it is in Albania’s interest for Macedonia to be stable and that the rights of the Albanians can not be solved by destabilizing the country. He believes that the current problems in Macedonia are actually a fight between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM for power.
