BRUSSELS – EU foreign policy and security chief Federica Mogherini said ahead of an informal meeting with the PMs of the Western Balkans Six in Brussels that the main topics on the agenda would be cooperation among the countries of the region and their individual cooperation with the EU.

The Western Balkans is a region that is “key for the EU” when it comes to security, prevention of radicalisation, management of refugee flows and management of our borders, she told reporters.

I invited them to share with them “the way ahead, how the EU can strengthen opportunities and perspectives for good-neighbourly relations in the region, increase cooperation among them and between each of them and the EU, and consolidate the …transformative power of the EU perspective, with the aim of developing inclusive societies, good governance but also vibrant economies,” she said.
