Roth: Western Balkans should not be put aside as a topic

It seems the EU strategic interest towards the Western Balkans has been reduced. Stability and safety could be achieved in Europe if we work on stability, security and regional conciliation across Western Balkans, says Germany’s Minister of State for Europe at the Federal Foreign Office, Michael Roth.

“European Union is not a common market or an economic project, but the community of values”, adds Roth.

Germany would take over EU Presidency next year, he hopes there would be bigger engagement towards Western Balkans.

“We are dealing with other issues. One of them is Brexit which is taking a lot of energy and time. We are negotiating over EU financial frame. In addition, Western Balkans should not be put aside as a topic”, concludes Roth.
