BRUSSELS – German MEP Viola von Cramon-Taubadel is the new Rapporteur of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee for Kosovo, EP confirms for European Western Balkans.

Cramon-Taubadel has already gotten involved in the developments in Kosovo as the Chief Observer of the EU Election Observation Mission during the parliamentary election in Kosovo held this weekend.

She is the first-time MEP and a member of German Greens since 2001, as well as Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament. This group also held the position of Rapporteur for Kosovo during the previous mandate, when this role was given to Igor Šoltes.

Rapporteurs of the European Parliament for the Western Balkan countries are responsible for drafting the annual reports adopted by EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee and then discussed in the plenary sessions. It is an non-binding but influential way to point out the issues EU is most concerned with when it comes to the candidate countries.

Earlier today EWB published the names of new Rapporteurs for Montenegro and Albania, nominated by the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
