Aleksandar Vučić, who has served as President of Serbia since 2017, resigned tonight. Earlier this month, Vučić was officially nominated by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) as its candidate for Prime Minister in the parliamentary election scheduled for 25 October 2026.
Vučić resigned as President about eight months before the end of his second presidential term, which was supposed to expire on 31 May 2027. He was constitutionally barred from running for President a third time.
