A political experiment: The profile of the Student List, a new political force in Serbia

Emerging from the student protest movement, the Student List has managed to mobilise an unprecedented number of supporters and activists in opposition to Aleksandar Vučić.

The Belgrade statue of "Pobednik" (The Victor) has become one of the symbols of the Student List

Serbia’s parliamentary election on 25 October will pit Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) against its most formidable challenger to date: the Student List (SL), a leaderless political group that refuses to transform itself into a conventional political party.

Emerging from the student protest movement that began in late 2024, the Student List has managed to mobilise an unprecedented number of supporters and activists. Whether this will be enough to defeat Vučić at the ballot box remains to be seen, but the challenger’s unconventional structure is a political experiment that is likely to leave a lasting impact.
