BRUSSELS – Why is the establishment of RECOM important for the region of the former Yugoslavia will be the topic of the roundtable discussion “Reconciliation in the Western Balkans“, which will take place on January 9 in Brussels.

The purpose of the event is to discuss the ways in which best to approach the issue of reconciliation during the accession process of the post-Yugoslav countries – whether the Berlin Process, now in its final year, could be one of the tools to boost regional reconciliation, as the Coalition for RECOM’s policy brief recommends, and in what ways the European Union could help reconciliation in the region.

Some of the key speakers of this event will be Nataša Kandić, Žarko Puhovski, Zdravko Grebo, Adriatik Kelmendi and Ana Marjanović Rudan.

The event is organised by RECOM – a regional commission for the establishment of facts about war crimes and other serious violations of human rights committed in the former Yugoslavia from January 1, 1991 until December 31, 2001. The Initiative for RECOM advocates for the establishment of RECOM.
