BELGRADE – Serbia is getting closer to the EU, the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi said on Friday, noting that economic and rule of law reforms were crucial for EU accession.
Speaking at a conference organised by Serbia’s National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), Fabrizi said he had two messages for Serbia: that “enlargement is back on the radar of the European Union” and that the focus must be on economic and rule of law reforms.
He recalled the European Commission would on February 6 release its enlargement strategy for the Western Balkans, and noted that the “enlargement perspective was firm and clear.”
“Serbia is one of the candidates that have made the most progress in the accession process, so my encouragement to all of you is that you take advantage of this unique window of opportunity,” Fabrizi said.
