SKOPJE – The EU Enlargement Strategy is one of the most important initiatives of the European Commission for the region, said Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs of Macedonia, Bujar Osmani at today’s coordinative working breakfast with ambassadors and their representatives from Western Balkan countries.
The meeting was held ahead of the publication of the European Commission’s Strategy for Enlargement with the Western Balkan countries by 2025.
“The EU Enlargement Strategy is one of the European Commission’s most important initiatives for this region, because it directly shows that the European Union has returned it’s focus on the region, and the enlargement process with the Western Balkan countries is again high on the Union’s agenda”, said Osmani, adding that with this document, the Commission has put the process of expanding on solid rails, and with precise deadlines.
Osmani said he expects that along with Montenegro and Serbia, which were announced to be listed in the Strategy as countries that are currently leading the European integration process in the region, the document should adequately state the European perspectives for Macedonia and Albania, which would be “encouraged to start membership negotiations soon”, and therefore join the same fast track to enter the European Union by 2025.
