STRASBOURG – The dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is “absolutely essential” for Serbia and Kosovo and in terms of their future relationship, and also for the region and their European perspectives, EU foreign policy and security chief Federica Mogherini told a press conference after the adoption of the EU’s new enlargement strategy Tuesday.

“They know this, they work well together. I am encouraged by the fact the two presidents have launched a couple months ago a new phase of moves towards a normalisation of their relationships,” Mogherini said.

She said she believed this could be carried out successfully with determination and political leadership on both sides and with support from the EU.

“I think by the end of our mandate we can get to that,” she said.

Enlargement Commission Johannes Hahn noted the region remained fragile.
