Hahn: Too early to talk about form of binding agreement

STRASBOURG – EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn says it is too early to talk about what a legally binding agreement between Serbia and Kosovo will look like.

“What counts is really an agreement between the two countries, what the future coexistence can look like,” this is “what counts and what is important”, Hahn told Tanjug ahead of the adoption of the EU’s new enlargement strategy for the Western Balkans, which does not set 2019 as the deadline for a legally binding agreement of Belgrade and Pristina.

“I think it is too premature to be clear here,” Hahn said.

“As all the countries in the region have a perspective, all of them are motivated” and this should serve as an “incentive to reach as soon as possible the different milestones in order, so to say, to have the final goal within a predictable timeframe,” said Hahn, who will visit Belgrade Wednesday.
