EU: Community to be formed in line with Kosovo laws

Plenary session Week 27 2017 in Strasbourg - EP building and Flags

BRUSSELS – The Community of Serb Municipalities will be established in line with Kosovo laws, European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijančič said on Tuesday.

Sources in Brussels said a management team set up by Pristina to work on the Community’s draft statute would also be assisted by OSCE experts.

When asked by Tanjug whether the work on the draft was underway according to the Brussels Agreement, which gives greater powers to the Kosovo Serbs, or according to a decision by the Kosovo constitutional court, which reduces their powers to those of an NGO, the sources said the Community would be formed in keeping with the Kosovo law.

It is not all “black and white”, they said, recalling a European Commission assessment that the constitutional court had also confirmed some aspects of the Brussels Agreement relating to the establishment of the Community.
