In line with the Arrangements regarding Telecommunications and the Action Plan and relevant conclusions of the EU Facilitator deriving from those Arrangements, the International Telecommunication Union has today allocated the three digit dial code +383 to Kosovo. This allocation is confirmed in the bulletin of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Also today, the EU handed over to Mts d.o.o. the temporary authorisation for mobile and the licence for fixed telephony services to be undertaken in Kosovo, issued by the Kosovo Telecommunication Regulatory Authority.
EWB reminds that earlier this year the parties agreed on the mobile telephony and frequency bands and spectrums to be allocated to Mts d.o.o in Kosovo, enabling it to continue to provide the current level of coverage to its customers. The arrangement also enables the transfer of assets to Mts d.o.o without any customs, taxes or charges.
The parties agreed on a migration period of two years during which a dual numbering approach will be used, in order to allow customers of the new company to continue using their existing number in Kosovo in which the company operates.
“This is a historic achievement in the field of telecommunications that strengthens the international entity of Kosovo,” the website of the Kosovo government quoted Minister for Dialogue Edita Tahiri.
Tanjug News agency stated that Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary-General congratulated both parties on the progress made after intensive negotiations that lasted nearly three years and that he was proud to have contributed to this the satisfactory solution for all parties.
The EU also commended both parties for this important achievement.
