TIRANA – Delivering positive initial results from implementation of the crucial justice system reform will be essential for opening negotiations for Albania’s accession to the European Union.
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, said in his speech during the third meeting on foreign policy and EU integration on Wednesday that opening the accession talks with the EU is a top government priority.
“Our work focuses on implementation of the justice reform, the vetting law along with efforts to consolidate achievements in the fight against corruption and organized crime. Securing a decision by the EU member states to open the accession negotiations is the main objective of the Albanian government,” Foreign Minister stated.
According to him, European partners have welcomed Albania’s progress regarding the justice reform and expect initial results from the vetting process.
We expect – Bushati went on saying – to achieve tangible results from the scanning of around 800 judges and prosecutors until next spring.
“Our partners also appreciate Albanian government efforts in the fight against cannabis cultivation and have positively assessed the public administration reform,” Bushati said.
