BELGRADE – Tonight, former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that, based on stratified sampling data, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) had lost the snap parliamentary election to the opposition Student List.

“They (the Student List) will secure between 135 and 140 seats, while we will have approximately 105, leaving no other major list represented in parliament,” Vučić stated.

According to Vučić, the SNS was backed by 1.72 million votes, compared to roughly 2.2 million for the Student List.

Raša Nedeljkov, Programme Director of the Crta organisation, said that the Student List captured 51.47 percent of the vote, whereas the “Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia” coalition finished with 40.42 percent.

Nedeljkov noted that aside from minority parties, no other electoral lists crossed the parliamentary threshold, and invalid ballots accounted for 1.55 percent of the total.

Ilija Srdanović, who headed the Student List, declared that “tonight Serbia has won,” adding that he was deeply “proud of the people who stood up to tyranny.

“We are moving toward a civilized and better Serbia,” Srdanović emphasized.
