SKOPJE – Support for EU membership rose from 72% in March 2017 to 83% in August this year, while support for NATO membership is slightly lower at 77%, show results of a poll by International Republican Institute (IRI). Almost 50% of citizens will vote in favour of the name deal with Greece, while 22% plan to vote against.

Support for entering these organisations under the name Republic of North Macedonia is completely supported by 37% of citizens and somewhat supported by another 20%, poll shows. They believe accession benefits justify the acceptance of the new name, IRI claims.

Nearly 40% of the respondents believe that the country is moving in the right direction, which is a significant improvement compared to last year’s results, when the number was only 15%.

The survey was conducted from June to July on the sample of 1,100 adult citizens with the response rate of 69%. It was supported by United States Agency for International Development.
