Serbia is heading for another early parliamentary election scheduled for 25 October 2026. For years, opposition parties and electoral observers have assessed that, while there has been no proof of major vote counting irregularities, the playing field before election day has been heavily tilted in favour of the ruling party.
The electoral conditions, including the distrust in the accuracy of the voter register, led to protests and criticism from the European Union following the December 2023 elections. In its report on the elections, the OSCE / ODIHR observation mission noted the “ruling party’s systemic advantages”, creating “unjust conditions”.
