STRASBOURG – European Parliament’s (EP) rapporteur on Serbia David McAllister said Thursday he was very happy that the EP had adopted the Resolution on Serbia with such a large majority, a strong signal that the EP, across party lines, was ready to continue its support for Serbia on its way to the EU.
McAllister, who drafted the document adopted with 498 votes in favor and 66 votes against, observed that the Serbian government was clearly committed to the policy of European integration.
“However, there’s still a long way to go. But Serbia has a lot of friends and we are ready and willing to help,” McAllister told Tanjug.
He said that the opening of the first two chapters in December had been “a big moment for Serbia,” and that “now hard work on the ground starts,” adding that he hoped seeing more chapters eing opened in 2016.
