meta_maliSKOPJE – More time is needed, but the political parties have to demonstrate democratic maturity, said EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn at the official handover of the 31 terrain vehicles donated by the EU Border Police, in the context of yesterday’s talks with leaders of political parties on the issue of the formation of a new government.

“The parties should continue to negotiate and demonstrate democratic maturity, they should offer a great program based on the Przino Agreement and show commitment to the European perspective. And if this turns out to the case, I am confident in the future of the country”, said Hahn.

When asked whether during the talks with the parties yesterday, did they demonstrate democratic maturity, Hahn did not answer, but said that he was always optimistic.

The EU Commissioner in his address at the ceremony, spoke of the meeting that he had with President Gjorge Ivanov this morning.

He said that the President had asked for “the European Union to do more for his country and for more events such as today” which was dedicated to the donation of vehicles from the EU.

“I invited Ivanov to come with me to the event to demonstrate the strong collaboration and strong ties between the EU and your country”, said Hahn.

Ivanov, however, was not among the guests at today’s ceremony at the grounds of the Ministry of Interior.
