TIRANA – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati, has described the opening of accession negotiations for Albania as a happy day for all Albanians. In a press release, Bushati points out that the beginning of accession talks is attributed to the results of reforms in the rule of law.
“Today is a happy day for Albania. The European Commission’s recommendation to start accession talks is based on the results of reforms in the rule of law. I am referring to judicial reform, fight against organized crime, corruption, protection and promotion of fundamental human rights, which at the same time constitute the five main priorities of Albania in this process,” Bushati said.
Meanwhile, the minister said that this recommendation is a genuine appreciation by the side of EC but also a major boost for Albania to commit itself to fulfilling the priorities.
Of course, we feel uplifted by this genuine appreciation of the EC and at the same time we vow to work harder in the process of reforms in order for Albania to go to the table of accession negotiations.
Concerning the new challenge ahead of Albania after this step, Bushati said that the entire process will take time and the latter will be the only way to push ahead with Europeanization of the country.
It will be a tough chapter, a new challenging journey that will take its time and incur its costs, but will be the only way to push ahead with Europeanization, Bushati concludes his statement.
